Dr Jim Swan is regarded as one of the pioneers in catapulting New World whiskies onto the international stage. Although his roots lay in Scotch, in a career that lasted over 40 years, his genius helped a large number of distilleries around the world to produce quality, young whiskies, often in hot climates not typically known for being able to produce whisky.

Dr Swan passed away suddenly on 14 February 2017, at the age of 75. This Masterclass, almost three years to the day of the anniversary of his death, showcases six whiskies from six distilleries, each in a different country, that were established under his guidance. Several of these are unique bottlings, not before seen in Australia:

  • Cotswolds Founder's Choice, STR ex-Bourbon , Cask Strength (England)

  • Amrut ex-Bourbon Single Cask #3434, distilled 2009, bottled 2015, one of 150 (India)

  • Kilchoman STR Red Wine Cask, distilled 2012, bottled 2019 (Scotland)

  • Penderyn Madeira Cask Finish (Wales)

  • Milk & Honey Young Single Malt, Double Cask STR ex-Red Wine and ex-Bourbon, bottled 2018 (Israel)

  • Kavalan Distillery Reserve Peaty Cask, distilled 2007, bottled 2014 (Taiwan)
